Biography
Anna Held, a musical comedy star, was born March 8, 1873 in Warsaw. She began her career on stage in London and Paris where she attracted the eye of Florenz Ziegfeld who signed her to a contract to tour America. She moved to the U.S. and after completing the tour starred on Broadway for Ziegfeld. In 1897, after divorcing Maximo Carrera, a South American business man whom she had met and married in Paris, she married Mr. Ziegfeld. In 1912 she divorced Flo Ziegfeld who then married Billie Burke. Anna Held died 2 August 1918 leaving her entire estate to her daughter, Liane Carrera.
In 1976 after a varied career, Liane Carrera opened the Anna Held Museum in San Jacinto, California. Miss Carrera devoted the rest of her life to telling the story of Anna Held. Liane Carrera died in 1988.
