- Summary
- Views, mostly reproductions, of and about abolitionist John Brown as depicted in photographs, drawings, etchings, newspaper clippings and announcements dated approximately between 1850 and 1859. Collection includes half-length portraits of Brown; images of his wife, mother, father and sons; artist's renditions of the Harper's Ferry Insurrection, Brown's trial and Brown right before hanging; buildings related to Brown including homes, a tannery and a fort; views of his grave and a memorial in North Elba; views of areas in Tabor, Iowa and battlefields in Iowa; and reproductions of newspaper clippings, broadsides and a declaration of liberty written by Brown's son Owen.
