  • The USO (United Service Organizations, Inc.) was formed in 1941, its purpose being "to aid in the war and defense program of the United States and its Allies by serving the religious, spiritual, welfare, and educational needs of the men and women in the armed forces and the war and defense industries..., and in general, to contribute to the maintenance of morale in American communities and elsewhere." (USO Constitution and By-Laws)

Biography
The USO (United Service Organizations, Inc.) was formed in 1941, its purpose being "to aid in the war and defense program of the United States and its Allies by serving the religious, spiritual, welfare, and educational needs of the men and women in the armed forces and the war and defense industries..., and in general, to contribute to the maintenance of morale in American communities and elsewhere." (USO Constitution and By-Laws) During its initial years of operation (1941-1947) the Camp Shows brought entertainment to United States and Allied service men overseas, at home, in hospitals, and in occupied territories. Theater productions, as well as entertainment featuring Hollywood personalities and novelty performers, entertained servicemen all over the world.
