Summary
Portraits of Black Muslim leader Malcolm X. Collection includes a view of Malcolm X meeting with Martin Luther King, Jr.; Malcolm X in a group portrait with Charles Rangel, Percy Sutton and others on the steps of the New York State Capitol in Albany; with Chuck Stone, George Schuyler and George Goodman during a WLIB radio broadcast; talking to Fidel Castro; meeting with a group outside a Queens County, New York, court room; addressing a Marcus Garvey Day gathering (1958); in a view with Shirley Graham Du Bois in Accra, Ghana (1964); attending a dinner with Warith Deen Muhammad, Herbert Muhammad and James Shabazz; in a group portrait with Hope Stevens, Jaja Wachukwa and Lorraine Springsteen at a reception; and leaving his damaged home in Queens, New York, after it was firebombed (1965). Also included is a view of Malcolm X's gravesite in Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, New York, and views of a bronze sculpture of Malcolm X created by Gabriel Koren. There are also reproductions of paintings of Malcolm X, done by Charles Lilly, Caton and an unidentified artist. Full, half and quarter length portraits are available.
