Summary
The Otis Turner Papers includes speeches, sermons, articles, and reports written by Turner. Included is a list of titles; some of the subjects he addressed are racism and diversity, hate crimes, racial justice, various aspects of the Presbyterian Church, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Of particular interest are two addresses about black Presbyterians. Included is Turner's dissertation "Toward and Ethnic of Black Liberation Based on Philosophy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Stokely Carmichael's Concept of Black Power" (1974). The balance of the collection is comprised of correspondence and memoranda regarding issues Turner dealt with in his role as coordinator of the Presbyterian Church (USA), Racial Justice Development and administrator of the Fund for Legal Aid from 1982-2003 (bulk 1989-2003).

  • The Reverend Doctor Otis Turner is a retired minister of the Presbyterian Church and, among other titles, was associate of the Racial Justice Policy Development as well as the administrator of the Fund for Legal Aid in the Racial Ethnic Ministries of the Presbyterian Church (USA) in Louisville, Kentucky (1978-2003). He also provided staff services to the Committee on Racial Ethnic Concerns, and interracial group that made recommendations to the General Assembly on matters related to people of color (2005-2008).
