Local Note
The Schomburg Center Manuscripts, Archives & Rare Book Division has two copies of this item, and the frontispiece illustration differs in each copy; Copy 1 (accession no. G94925) is a gift, probably added to the Schomburg collection when Catherine A. Latimer was the collection librarian. The book bears an NYPL bookplate of "Arthur A. Schomburg Negro Collection" on pages [2] of the cover, NYPL's perforated stamp, and early processing marking of the original collection; Library bound in red cloth over boards and a gilt spine. The frontispiece illustration is signed: Vollum.
Copy 2 (accession no. B594156) is part of the original collection purchased from Arthur A. Schomburg in 1926; the book also includes an NYPL bookplate of "Arthur A. Schomburg Negro Collection" on pages [2] of the cover, NYPL's perforated stamp, and early processing marking of the original collection. It's library bound in blue cloth over boards and a gilt spine; probably added to the Schomburg collection when Catherine A. Latimer was the collection librarian. The frontispiece illustration is signed: Croome.
