Summary

Boston before and after the fire, 1872: general view from the city hall; street views including Frnaklin St., Milk St. from Washington, SummerSt. Pearl St., Washington St., Water St. showing businesses, traffic, carts; the Old South Church (untouched after the fire); the Transcript building and neighboring businesses; the National Revere bank; scenes of the destruction include the safe from the National Revere bank lying amid the rubble, wagons being used to haul away rubble; remains of buildings propped up with lumber; smoke still rising from the rubble. Some views duplicated.
