Stereoscopic views on the Union Pacific Railroad: Farnham Street, Omaha; Rollins House, Cheyenne; views showing the last rail and tie at Promontory, Utah, also sidings and trains; views of canyons, including Weber and Echo Canyons, showing rock formations, the river, bridges and tunnels, men at work on the tracks near the 1000 mile tree, section men on a hand car, Uintah, at the mouth of the Weber Canyon (photographer's shadow just visible), trestle two miles west of Wahsatch, railroad cuts, tents next to track and train going up the old Z near Wahsatch, Wahsatch, Green River Butte, general views of Salt Lake City, including the Tabernacle, "the Old Deseret Store"; views near Sherman, Wyo.: Reed's Rock, including view of man looking out from rocks with binoculars, Sherman in the background, other rock formations, and a view of a tree and the prairie looking south from Sherman; views on the Green River, including tracks running along river, Green River Station and Burning rock cut; Dale Creek canyon and the Dale Creek Bridge, including a view of a mountain goat skull atop a rock, man below; Silver City, showing a few small plank or log buildings; a group at Benton, some wearing top hats; train on a snowy prairie, Medicine Bow Mountains, beyond; wagon in Fish Creek Valley; group of men and women at Carbon Station, train in background.

  • Most of the views were probably made in 1869, and were published before Jackson sold his Omaha studio in 1872 since all are labelled either Jackson Bros. or W. H. Jackson, Omaha. Labels are printed on mount or printed on paper labels pasted on mounts and include caption and numbering, some captions and numbers printed, others hand-written. Includes views from the series "Rocky Mountain scenery," which may have been made in 1868.
