Biography
Henry George (1839-1897), political economist and social reformer, was best known for his book Progress and Poverty, in which he advocated economic equality through a single tax on land value. He ran unsuccessfully for mayor of New York City on a labor ticket in 1884 and died during his second mayoral campaign in 1897.
