Biography
Guichard Parris was the Director of Public Affairs for the National Urban League from 1946-1971, a position he created after working with the League for two years. As Director of Public Relations, Parris worked to provide information to the public about the Leagues activities and black achievements.
Born in the French West Indies, Parris received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Amherst College (1927), and a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University (1932). In addition to his work with the National Urban League, Parris was a college instructor (1930-1936), Director of the Negro National Youth Administration for Region I. (1939-1942), an urban affairs consultant for Underwood Jordan Associates (1968-1978), and served as president of the Schomburg Corporation (1984-1986). He also served as president of the Catholic Interracial Council of New York.
