Summary
Incoming correspondence, but primarily consists of printed material, reports, articles, news summaries, news clippings, and press releases, many of which are in French, on the former Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire), the Ivory Coast and Angola. Papers relate to Patrice Lumumba and his organization, the Mouvement National Congolais, to Moise Tshombe, the Katanga Secession and the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Republic of the Congo. Also materials on the early independence movement in Angola in the early 1960s, Portuguese colonialism, and on various Angolan organizations in exile, including the General League of Angolan Workers, the National Liberation Front of Angola (FNLA), Roberto Holden's Government of the Republic of Angola in Exile, and the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA). Ivory Coast related documents in the collection consist of vocational education materials, printed matter and other training materials for a conference of regional Peace Corps directors held in Abidjan in 1967.
