| Summary |
Collection consists of business correspondence, geological and technical reports, and hand-drawn maps from the period 1858 to 1875. Bulk of the reports describes surveys in Canada, United States, Mexico, and Cuba for gold, silver, coal, iron, clay, oil, lead, and copper. Other reports concern mining operations, and smelting, roasting and metallurgical techniques. Also, a few personal letters and newsclippings. |
| Biography |
Justus Adelberg was a metallurgist and engineer. Together with Rossiter Worthington Raymond (1840-1918), he formed a mining and assaying partnership in New York City in 1864. Raymond became prominent in the developing profession of mining engineering, serving as editor of the American Journal of Mining, United States Commissioner of Mining Statistics, and secretary of the American Institute of Mining Engineering. |
