Walter Terry speaks about the Bolshoi Ballet's third New York season, which was to be the last event at the old Metropolitan Opera House; the changes in the company since its United States debut in 1959; the influence of the Bolshoi Ballet on American ballet including specifically the influence on Edward Villella; the influence of the New York City Ballet company and George Balanchine's choreography on the Bolshoi Ballet; the Bolshoi Ballet's new version of The nutcracker [Yuri Grigorovich after Lev Ivanov]; the ballerina, Maya Plisetskaya [Maĭi͡a Pliset͡skai͡a]; the contrasts between the Bolshoi Ballet and the New York City Ballet; the Bolshoi Ballet's Sacre du printemps [Rite of spring], and their four-act Swan lake; the policy of cultural exchange between the United States and the U.S.S.R.
