Summary
Streaming audio file (approximately one hour and 32 minutes). [Applause.] Phillippe Entremont speaks about Maurice Ravel's family, background, early musical influences, and education; after performing brief sections of Satie's Gymnopédie no. 3 and Ravel's Ma mère l'Oye, Entremont continues with a history of Ravel's musical career; he introduces Miles Fusco; he and Miles Fusco play the original piano, four hand version of Ravel's Ma mère l'Oye; Entremont continues to speak about Ravel including his physical appearance, interests, activities, and personality; the ballet music composed by Ravel including Daphnis and Chloe (choreographed by Michel Fokine) and Bolero (choreographed by Bronislava Nijinska); Miles Fusco plays Ravel's Valses nobles et sentimentales; Entremont speaks about Ravel's American tour including its great critical and financial success, his return to Paris, and his death; he introduces the baritone William Parker, who, accompanied by Miles Fusco, sings Ravel's Cinq mélodies populaires grecques [Mélodies populaires grecques] and three songs from Don Quichotte à Dulcinée.
