Summary
Streaming audio file (approximately 28 minutes). [Introduction of program.] Ruth Rowson [spelled phonetically], as moderator, leads the discussion between the students (who introduce themselves) and Walter Terry about the revised edition of his book The dance in America (c. 1971). Topics discussed include the ways in which Terry revised the book including new chapters on Black dance and on regional ballet; each student's favorite chapter; dancers such as Ted Shawn, who had to overcome physical difficulties; religion in Ted Shawn's and Ruth St. Denis' work; the students' own dance training; what Terry looks for at auditions for the High School for Performing Arts; the potential audience for this book; closing remarks [the remaining approximate 4.30 minutes of the recording is an unrelated program, Waste not].
