Bella Lewitzky speaks with Elinor Rogosin about Lester Horton; the Horton technique; virtuosity as a tool rather than as an end in itself; her dancers; collaborating with the composers Cara Bradbury Rhodes Marcus [Cara Bradbury Rhodes] and Larry Attaway, and the designers Darleene Neel and Rudi Gernreich; methods for recording her choreography including her own notation system and videotape; her tendency to revise her works depending on the dancers; her interest in the transmission of cultural inheritance; the much broader public awareness today of modern dance; the continuing growth and change in modern dance; how the arts further learning and understanding life; touring.
