Erik Bruhn speaks with John Gruen about his partner Alicia Markova and how impressed he was by her interpretation of the "swearing" scene in Act I of Giselle; performing Giselle together in Denmark including an anecdote about his impromptu curtain call; Alicia Alonso including their dancing Don Quixote; dancing with her in Swan lake; the strong impressions he had of Markova and Alonso compared with that of Nora Kaye; dancing with Allegra Kent at New York City Ballet; his reconciliation with Harald Lander; working with Toni Lander in [Birgit Cullberg's] Miss Julie; his difficulties dancing in Lander's Etudes, when he was 41; his relationship with Harald Lander; touring the [former] Soviet Union including his impressions of [Vakhtang Mikhaĭlovich] Chabukani; [Nikita Sergeevich] Khrushchev's attending a performance [ends abruptly but continues on streaming file 2].
