Walter Terry describes the set where The nutcracker, with Mikhail Baryshnikov [and Gelsey Kirkland], is being filmed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation including some remarks Baryshnikov had previously made to him about the production [at approximately 2:50 minutes the interview with Tony Charmoli begins]; Tony Charmoli, the director, speaks to Terry about the filming including various technical aspects and points he discussed with Baryshnikov [this part of the interview ends at approximately 11:00]; Terry speaks about his conversation with Baryshnikov regarding Baryshnikov's upcoming production of Don Quixote; his doubts about the ballet Le corsaire; working with Charmoli; what is currently happening on the set [interview with Charmoli resumes]; Charmoli speaks with Terry about filming specific sections of The nutcracker; working with Baryshnikov including their rapport; some of the effects he wants to achieve; the advantages of seeing ballet on television as compared to a live performance; how he tries to compensate for the camera's distortion [an unidentified third person joins the conversation]; choreographing, including Charmoli's view that it is impossible to teach how to choreograph [ends abruptly but continues on streaming audio file 2].

  • Interviews with Tony Charmoli and Mikhail Baryshnikov conducted by Walter Terry, in October, 1976, on the set in Toronoto Canada where the The nutcracker is being filmed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. The interview with Charmoli begins at approximately 2:50 minutes into streaming audio file 1 and continues with some interruptions until approximately 11 minutes into streaming audio file 2. The interview with Baryshnikov is in the final approximate four minutes of streaming audio file 2. In between interview segments, Terry records his own comments on the production.
  • Sound quality is fair to poor. The recording is marred by continuous extraneous noise and occasional short gaps.
