Walter Terry speaks about the Spoleto festival [Festival of Two Worlds] in Charleston, South Carolina, in particular the Nederlands Dans Theater including its performance of Hans von Manen's Grosse fugue and of Jiří Kylián's Stool games, Symphony in D, and Verklärte Nacht; the performances at the gala opening of the Festival including Kylián's Sinfonietta [this section of the recording ends at approximately 17:30 minutes, and is followed immediately by the interview with Jiří Kylián]. Jiří Kylián speaks with Terry about Nederlands Dans Theater including his satisfaction with the dancers' performances at the Festival; the principles underlying his choreography; choreographers who have influenced or inspired him including John Cranko, Jerome Robbins, Kenneth MacMillan, and Glen Tetley; his thoughts on Frederick Ashton including his Month in the country; Kylián's works Ariadne, November steps, and Children's steps; his choreographic process; choosing the works to be presented at the Festival; choreographing Sinfonietta including his emotional connection to the music; Antony Tudor.
