- "In the 1890's Annie [Capt. Lewis Goldsmith's second wife] took her daughters into show business. Dressed in costumes of her own design and fabrication, four of the five Goldsmith Girls learned to dance and sing in an act dubbed, of course, 'The Goldsmith Sisters'. By the time she took them on tour, playing vaudeville theaters all around the country as part of the Proctor circuit, the Goldsmith Sisters were down to three: Mattie, Lillian, and Beatrice - from youngest to oldest." -- email from Veronica Goldsmith Risko (great-granddaughter of Capt. Goldsmith).
