Details
- Description
- Engraving, colored; line border: 22.6 x 32.6 cm.
- Note
- A caricature prompted by the controversial refusal of the curate of St. Roch to allow the body of Chameroy into his church, and the subsequent acceptance of the body by the priest of the parish of Filles-Saint-Thomas.
- At left, one of St. Peter's assistants raises a trap door. St. Peter, holding a list of names, points to the mob beneath the opening. Chameroy, bare breasted and wearing a diaphanous skirt, dances at center before four celestial dignitaries.
- A pouting cleric, with shells on his clothing, sits at background left holding a dog in his lap. The cleric depicted represents the church official who refused to give Chameroy a Christian burial (cf. engraving *MGZFD Cha M Sai 1).
