  • Videotaped in the village of Blega, Bali on September 16, 1977 by Elizabeth Young with the assistance of Timothy Asch. Performers: Djimat Sadeg, Sija, Brentangan Latri, Murda, and Anak Agung Cenik. SUMMARY: Complete performance of a Balinese Topèng (masked) dance-drama performance staged in conjunction with the ceremonies for the ordination of a Brahmanpriest, whose family resides in Blega. Presents the story of Danghyang Nirarta, a Brahman priest who journeys from Java to Bali, is eaten by a naga (serpent-dragon spirit), emerges with a blackened face, and settles in the village of Mas where he becomes high priest.
