CONTENTS. - Part I (30 min.): Vodoun in Haiti. General overview of the vodoun religion in Haitian history and culture, including its roots in African tribal religions and its ties to Christianity. Among the experts interviewed is dancer/choreographer/anthropologist Katherine Dunham. - Part II (29 min.): Vodoun ceremony. Lavinia Williams presents a detailed description of vodoun ceremonies, which include dancing, singing, and spirit possession. Accompanied by musicians Babatunde Olatunji, Kimati Dinizulu, Jimmy Cruiz, and Ron McBee, she demonstrates representative vodoun dances such as the Yanvalou, Banda, Congo, and Petro dances.
