  • Joseph D. Lewitan, dance critic and founder of Der Tanz, and his wife, the former Maryinsky ballerina and ballet teacher Eugenia Eduardova emigrated from Russia to Western Europe. The political climate and World War II resulted in their moving from Germany to France, then Casablanca and finally the United States, where Mr. Lewitan was employed by the U. N.
  • Their collection includes personal correspondence; passports, visas and documents, including many from Nazi Germany and Occupied France; dance reviews by Joseph Lewitan which were published in the Russian language paper "Novoe russkoe slovo"; a ballet exercise notebook of Eduardova's; clippings and programs relating to the work of Aurel Milloss; photographs including some of Eduardova, Lewitan, Alexander von Swaine and Lisa Czobel.
