Boris Kochno was a close friend of ballet director Serge Diaghilev, serving as his secretary until the latter's death in 1929. The collection comprising the Fonds Kochno contains 156 folders (Pièces 1 to 156) and includes manuscripts, correspondence, contracts, notebooks, photographs, a few engravings, sketches, programs, passports, ballet scenarios, articles, and other materials relating to Serge Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes. Covering the period from ca. 1911 to 1929, most of the material dates from 1916 to 1928, with one item (no. 141) from 1938. The major part of the collection comprises Diaghilev's correspondence (Pièces 1-108). |
