- Letters, 1739-1812, chiefly to Samuel Galloway (1720-1785) and his son John Galloway (d.1810) relating to trade in slaves, tobacco, flour, wine, horses, and general merchandise as well as to family affairs. Included also are John Galloway's account book, 1777-1780, kept as executor of the estate of his brother-in-law, Thomas Ringgold, Jr. and other miscellaneous acounts, dating chiefly from 1793. Correspondents include Thomas Ringgold (1715-1772) of Chestertown, Maryland, and members of the extended Galloway, Ringgold, Chew, and Tilghman families.

- Samuel Galloway (1720-1785) was a merchant of West River, Maryland. He married Ann Chew (1725-1756) with whom he had four children, John, Benjamin, Mary and Anne. John (d.1810), also a merchant, acted as executor for the estate of his sister Mary's husband, Thomas Ringgold, Jr. of Chestertown, Maryland.
