Summary Collection consists of correspondence and printed matter concerning Wilder. Correspondence includes incoming letters to Wilder, 1947-1972, from friends and acquaintances; and his letters, 1939-1979, to his friend and collaborator William Engvick. Also, Engvick's correspondence and other materials he collected about Wilder, including copies of vols. 1-6 of newsletter "Friends of Alec Wilder."
Biography Alexander LaFayette Chew Wilder (1907-1980) was an American composer and songwriter. He composed sonatas for the bassoon, flute and tuba; works for the piano; a concerto for saxophone and chamber orchestra; five operas; and a ballet. He wrote several hundred popular songs and was the author of a memoir and the co-author of a book about popular music.
