Summary
Documentation of part of a three-week trip to the interior of Guinea, made by Kemoko Sano and Hamidou Bagoura, respectively choreographer and technical director of Les Ballets Africains of the Republic of Guinea, in search of promising musicians and dancers who might be recruited for the company, and source material for new works. At each site they visited, they were received by local authorities, and watched local troupes. They are often glimpsed observing, recording, and occasionally taking part in the performances.

Landscapes and buildings seen on the road between Macenta and Siguiri (ca. 6 min.) -- Visit to a dignitary, who poses for a portrait with his household (ca. 3 min.) -- Siguiri: performance of drumming, singing, and dancing. The drummers accompany women as they progress in single file through the village. Kemoko Sano (in red-and-white warm-up suit) dances while drumming, and two little girls dance solos -- Two processions, the first by men with rifles, led by singer-musicians playing bolons (stringed instruments), the second by men dancing to the accompaniment of flute and drums. They converge on a tree-shaded spot where dignitaries and a large audience are gathered.
  • Reel 2 (ca. 21 min.). Continuation of the performance under the trees. Men with rifles dance, followed by a masked dancer in a raffia costume. Music is performed by a kora player and female singer, an ensemble of girls with oblong instruments, and drummers.
