Summary
Slide lecture by Peter Gold, an ethnomusicologist and anthropologist, on the parallels between the spiritual beliefs of the Navajos and the Tibetans. He discusses four principles held in common by the two cultures, similarities between some of their myths and deities (e.g., the Navajo Changing Woman and the Tibetan Tara), the similar use of Tibetan sand mandalas and Navajo sandpaintings in religious practice, and other points of affinity. The illustrations depict the people of both cultures, and their homelands, artwork, and religious ceremonies.
