Note
  • Photocopy of typescript and manuscript.
  • "Score (361 drawings by Thoreau sometimes superimposed) and 78 parts (for any instruments and/or voices): to be played alone or (as an occasional piece) with Apartment house 1776 or some other 'musicircus' (live or recorded) appropriate to another occasion than the Bi-Centennial of the U.S.A..." -- from performance notes.
  • From general remarks: The seventy-eight who play Renga act on the suggestions of graphic notation. In western tradition, tones are musical when they are fixed with respect to their characteristics. In folk and oriental traditions tones are musical when they change pitch and quality in their course. Graphic notation suggests such changes.
