Pforzheimer copy 5: *Pforz A-LD 11: Presentation copy from William Godwin to Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley: Ink inscription on title-page reads in full "Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin / May 14, 1814" (G 0351). -- Bound in contemporary tan calf with "MARY" stamped in gilt on upper cover, interlocking border stamped in blind to upper and lower covers, cover edges stamped in gilt, blind stamped turn-ins, spine diced in blind with six gilt rules, leather spine label with title: "Godwin / On / Sepulchres;" shell marbled endpapers, all edges marbled; front hinge repaired; housed within quarter red morocco slipcase and red cloth chemise. -- Note on flyleaf that this copy came into the possession of E. S. Burgess May 9, 1900 "from the collection of Thos. H. Ludlow, archaeologist, Secretary of the American School at Athens." -- Acquired by Carl H. Pforzheimer from A. S. W.
