Berg copy 1: Presentation copy to Thomas Jefferson Hogg, with his ownership inscription on the front pastedown of volume 2 (“T: Jeff.n Hogg from the / Author”). – In original pink paste paper boards, with original printed spine labels. – Formerly owned by Owen D. Young. – Within full black morocco slipcase, made by Riviere & Son, with ornate gilt decorations and red morocco inlays on spine and covers.
Berg copy 2: With early ink ownership signature on front covers (“[?] Gallagher[?]”). – With four pages of advertisements for Law & Whittaker bound in at the front of volume 1; lacking advertisements in volumes 2 and 3. – In original blue boards with drab backstrips, original printed spine labels. – With the bookplate of John A. Spoor in each volume, sold at his sale, Parke-Bernet galleries, May 3, 1939, lot 744. – Formerly owned by Albert A. and Henry W. Berg. – Within blue quarter morocco and blue linen slipcase with gilt spine titling.
