Mr. Ewing, General Director of the City Center Joffrey Ballet, discusses meeting Robert Joffrey; their work and friendship; Joffrey's various talents; Rebekah Harkness' involvement in Joffrey's company and the divisions that resulted; the Rebekah Harkness Foundation; his role in helping Joffrey re-establish his company and creating a non-profit foundation for it; establishing New York's City Center as a home base for the company and expanding its season in New York and nationally; getting financial assistance from the National Endowment for the Arts; Gerald Arpino; leaving the company; his appraisal of Joffrey's contribution to the dance world; Joffrey's personal qualities; the Joffrey Ballet's move to Chicago; and the company's workshops and residencies at various universities in the early 1960's.
