Side A of the original interview tape, recorded December 2, 1996, was unuseable due to a technical error; cassette 1 is a reconstruction, on March 3, 1997, by Ms. De Angelo and Ms. Anawalt of the original material.
Summary Cassette 1. Recorded March 3, 1997. Ms. De Angelo describes her first dance classes and teachers; her affinity for performing; studying at San Francisco Ballet; being told in auditions that she was too short and the impact that had on her technique and state of mind; joining Joffrey II Company and later the City Center Joffrey Ballet; her virtuosity; being cast in a male role in Viva Vivaldi; Gerald Arpino's creative process; the creation process in general and the logistical constraints in dance companies; the Joffrey's historical role in terms of the creation of new choreography; and the creative participation of its dancers and how that has changed.
Cassette 2. Recorded December 2, 1996. Ms. DeAngelo discusses her role in Relativity of Icarus; Taming of the shrew; attending the Varna ballet competition; body type in ballet; her development and growth as an artist; developing an interest in choreography; the formation of Ballet D'Angelo; and her interest in street dancing.
