Pforzheimer copy 2: Shelved as *Pforz B-L 13. -- Formerly owned by the Irish writer John Taaffe; with Shelley's inscription to Taaffe on front fly leaf ("J. Taaffe Esq.r") and minor alterations throughout the text, possibly made by Shelley and/or Mary Shelley (PBS 0294). -- Bound seventh of a seven work nonce collection of Romantic poetry, each work formerly owned by Taaffe in contemporary three-quarters vellum, marbled paper boards.
Pforzheimer copy 3: Lacks the first blank leaf. -- An engraving of Beatrice Cenci and a facsimile of part of a P. B. Shelley letter precede title-page. -- Tan hard-grain panelled morocco by "J. Winstanley Manchester", spine title stamped in gilt, cover edges tooled in gilt, double gilt fillet to turn-ins, combed marbled endpapers. -- With the bookplate of Ross Winans. -- Acquired by Carl H. Pforzheimer from the library of Charles Baker, July 1918, through George D. Smith.
Pforzheimer copy 4: Presentation copy from Leigh Hunt to Vincent Novello; holograph inscription on front flyleaf reads in full: "To Vincent Novello from his sincere & unblushing friend Leigh Hunt" (LH 0257). -- Original blue-gray boards, drab paper back-strip, remnants of printed paper spine label; housed in a red cloth case with gilt title. -- Acquired by Carl H. Pforzheimer through Bernard Quaritch Ltd., August 1953.
Pforzheimer copy 5: Shelved as *Pforz 558R 18 : Shelley's own copy with his holograph corrections (PBS 0313). Corrections comprise: (1). Page 62, Shelley has added a line to the list of curses that Cenci wishes upon his daughter in Act IV scene 1: speech ending "All beholding sun, Strike in thine envy those life-darting eyes With thine own blinding beams!" has been extended with "till she become an abhorrence, and..." (2). Page 69, "Runs freely" has been changed to "Runs freelier" (3). Page 71, "He is a wicked and wrathful man" becomes "He is a wicked and a wrathful man" (4). Page 97, typographical correction, "Sweet sleep, were death like to thee" changed to "Sweet sleep, were death like thee." -- Bound in modern brown crushed morocco, single blind rule to upper and lower covers, single gilt rule to cover edges, inside dentelles. -- Autograph note signed from Neville Rogers to J. Stevens Cox dated January 5, 1969 laid in. -- In Forum Auctions, July 14, 2022, lot 97.
