  • This collection contains working papers for the book Bizet and His World by Mina Curtiss. It does not contain any draft material for this book or virtually any other documents that reveal Curtiss's writing. Though Curtiss visited France to interview various people relating to the life of her subject, most of the archival research in French libraries appears to have been carried out by research assistants.

  • Mina Curtiss was an author and teacher. She was a professor of English at Smith College, 1920-1934, 1940-1941, 1977; research assistant for Mercury Theatre and Mercury Theatre on the Air, 1935-1938; worked for Office of Information during World War II; author and editor; received Legion of Honor from French government for her books on Marcel Proust (1949) and Georges Bizet (1958); she died in 1985.
