- Summary
- Lecture-demonstration by Felix Fibich on the tradition of Jewish dance from Biblical times to modern-day Israel. The program opens and closes with solo dances by Fibich, who also illustrates his talk with many movement examples. Among his topics are Jewish dancing as part of religious and secular festivals in ancient times; Jewish dancing in the ghettos during the diaspora; the movement component of Hasidic prayers; how Jewish dancing reflects the angularity of the Hebrew alphabet and the duality of feeling prevalent in Jewish culture; Yemenite Jewish dancing; and the circle dance in Israel today.
