Summary Cassette 1. Mr. Bell remembers growing up in Tampa, Florida; being inspired by the films, Cabin in the sky and Stormy weather; going to New York to study at Katherine Dunham's School; studying with Syvilla Fort; studying with Caird Leslie and Igor Youskevitch; wanting to be a classical ballet dancer; attending the School of American Ballet; working with Frederick Ashton on the ballet Illuminations for the New York City Ballet 1950 premiere; dancing in Europe as part of a performing trio; dancing for Pierre Lacotte in La nuit est un sorcière.
Cassette 2. Mr. Bell recalls working with Roland Petit; Janine Charrat; returning to New York; gives his advice to young black ballet dancers.
