Pforzheimer copy 1: Formerly owned by the Shelley bibliographer H. Buxton Forman, with his bookplate; his sale lot 425. -- Bound in original blue-gray boards, rebacked in pink paper, title inked on spine, covers detached, uncut; in blue cloth folder within blue cloth slip-case.
Pforzheimer copy 2: "Hubert G. Norman" (in ink on front free endpaper). -- Page numbering out of sequence (M7-8 follow M2). -- Bound in old half sheep, rebacked, with red morocco spine label, Spanish boards.
Pforzheimer copy 3: With the bookplate of Sir George Shuckburgh. -- Bound in contemporary full tan polished calf, gilt decorations on cover edges.
Pforzheimer copy 4: Formerly owned by the novelist Mary Hays, with her signature in ink on the title-page. -- Many pages contain light pencil markings, almost exclusively vertical lines and curly brackets highlighting sections of the text. Nine pages (p. 11, 16, 50, 104, 169, 214, 219, 394, 414) contain light, mostly very minor, pencil annotations, in at least two, possibly as many as four different hands. The annotations are extremely light, and some are smeared beyond legibility. None of the annotations are certain to be Hays's; it is possible that none are.
