First issue; state with half title printed in blue, t.p. printed in red and blue, date "1843" on t.p., "Stave I" on p. [1] (2nd group) and green endpapers. Conforms to Podeschi's 6th-12th copies, described as "probably ... the third state of the first issue." Copy described by Sadleir has yellow endpapers. For discussion, cf. Glancy, p. 10-16.
Illustrations: 4 prints : etching, hand-col. ; full-page. Designed and etched by John Leech. -- 4 prints : wood engraving ; image 10 x 7 cm. or smaller. Engraved by J.J. Linton, after Leech.

Binding: Publisher's reddish brown cloth, stamped in gilt and in blind. All edges gilt.
