| Summary |
Former New York City Ballet dancer Gloria Contreras describes her early training and the influence of her teacher, Nelsi Dambre. Contreras discusses George Balanchine's support of her work as a choreographer, dancing briefly for the New York City Ballet, and creating dances on the New York Ccompany Ballet dancers. She recalls beginning her work in Mexico and the development of her career there. Contreras describes further details of her training, leaving Mexico for Canada and eventually the United States. She recalls more on the development of her work in the U.S., the help provided by Mr. Balanchine, and shares some brief thoughts on the evening of ballets collectively titled Panamerica. |
