Summary
Negative photostats and typed transcripts of records from the Amsterdam Lutheran Church archives relating to Lutheranism in New Netherlands. The records consist of minutes of the Consistory at Amsterdam, correspondence between the Consistory and Lutherans in New York, and petitions of Lutheran leaders to the Consistory and to the directors of the Dutch West India Company. Accompanying the transcripts is a typescript, "The Lutheran Church in New York, 1649-1772: Records in the Lutheran Church Archives at Amsterdam, Holland." The typescript is an English translation of the records by Arnold J.H. van Laer, with an introduction by Harry J. Kreider, Chairman of the Committee on Documentary History of the United Lutheran Synod of New York.

  • By arrangement with the Committee on Documentary History of the United Lutheran Synod of New York, the records were selected by the archivist of the Amsterdam Lutheran Church, Simon Hart, who arranged for the photostats to be made and prepared the Dutch transcripts, and sent them to the United States between 1937 and 1940. These materials were later presented to The New York Public Library by the United Lutheran Synod of New York.
