Note
  • First edition of the so-called King James Bible, or Authorized version. This edition is known as the "He" Bible, from the reading of Ruth III:15.
  • Prepared, on the basis of the Bishops' Bible and other versions, by about fifty scholars working in six groups on different sections of the Bible, whole finally edited by Milles Smith ( who wrote "The Translators to the Reader") and Thomas Bilson. For the complete list of scholars, cf. British museum catalogue.
  • General title printed within woodcut border. (Some copies of this edition have an engraved t.-p. An engraved t.-p. in the later state, dated 1611 but with a 1613 conjugate leaf, is laid in the third copy of the 1613 [N.T. 161] or "She" Bible, q.v.)
  • The New Testament has t.-p. (with same woodcut border as the general t.-p.): The Newe Testament ... Newly Tramslated ... and ... reuised, by his Maisties speciall Commandement. London, Imprinted by Robert Barker, Printer to the Kings most Excellent Maiestie, 1611.
  • Dedication, l. 2-3a, has caption "To ... Iames ... The Translators Of The Bible, wish Grace ... through Iesvs Christ ..." The last line is followed by a triangle of three periods, enclosed within parenteses, which is separated by two rules from the ornamental tailpiece.
  • In this edition three lines are duplicated in Exodus XIV: 10.
