Biography
In 1881 former members of Union Bethel Methodist Church adopted a committee report for formal organization as a church, with First Congregational Methodist Church of Washington, D.C. chosen as a temporary name, soon to be changed to Plymouth Congregational Church.
For over twenty years commencing in 1897, Reverend A.C. Garner led the church and eliminated much of the indebtedness to the American Missionary Association. Reverend Arthur D. Gray, beginning in 1934, projected Plymouth into the civic life of the community and became moderator of the Middle Atlantic Conference. In 1961 the church moved to its present location. With the arrival of Reverend Grayland Scott Ellis-Hagler, the church has increased membership, attention to local, community and international interests and renewed participation of the younger members of the church.
