- Title
- Corning Summer Theatre programs, 1953-1973.
- Biography
- The Corning Summer Theatre was established in the Corning Glass Center of Corning, New York, in 1950. Originally intended as a "star house" which would host pre-packaged touring companies, the Corning Summer Theatre changed its function under new management in 1953 and became a repertory operation with a resident company. This approach was adjusted somewhat in 1956, with the resident company retained, but serving as support to star performers brought in to headline productions. These performers included Joan Fontaine, James Earl Jones, Dana Andrews, Sid Caesar, Gig Young, Myrna Loy, William Shatner, and others.
