  • Cassette 1. 4/30/01 (80 min.): Dixon-Gottschild discusses her family background, exposure to music; education; first experiences with dance; her relationship to the culture and religion around her as a girl and young woman. She then discusses in depth her work in and studies with Mary Anthony; her first trip to Europe; her dance and personal experiences there; her thoughts on race at that time, particularly in reference to her own experiences; performing with the Open Theater and working with director Joe Chaiken and others involved with the theater at that time.
  • Cassette 2. 5/07/01 (90 min.): Dixon-Gottschild continues to discuss her family background; racial issues; her life in the late 1960s; more on her work with the Open Theater and deciding to leave; her trip to Tunisia; marrying Esty Stowell; getting a job at Bennington College and leaving after a year; the beginnings of her work as a writer; her graduate work; working for the College of New Rochelle.
  • Cassette 3. 5/07/01 (90 min): Dixon-Gottschild discusses the development of her teaching [interview pauses and resumes that evening]; her academic work in anthropology; thoughts on Katherine Dunham; various people she may have known or seen perform in New York, including Pearl Primus, Robert Farris Thompson, and Allegra Fuller Snyder; the 1990 Dance Critics Association conference; Richard Schechner; teaching criticism; John Szwed and Roger Abrahams; developing the doctoral program at Temple University; her own research; Philadelphia Dance Company; the work of her husband Hellmutt Gottschild; their work together.
