Includes information on the capture of William Walker in Nicaragua in 1857, protection of American shipping in Tampico, Mexico, 1858, and off Cuba, the Paraguay expedition, 1858-1859, blockading the South Atlantic States during the Civil War, salvaging of contraband cotton, and prizes of war.
