  • This is a synthetic collection, created from materials acquired through gift and purchase from various sources. The bulk of the materials is from W. T. H. Howe, Owen D. Young, and Henry W. and Albert A. Berg. There are also materials from Frank Fletcher, Lady Gregory, Earl Mesnier, Floryan Sobieniowski, John Lehmann's correspondence, Sir Edward Howard Marsh's correspondence, from the Benjamin R. Tucker Collection, and from the files of the American Play Co. One item was a gift of Dan H. Laurence and another was a gift of Jane Sommerich in memory of Otto C. Sommerich. The holograph written below a caricature "Debate between Bernard Shaw and Hilaire Belloc" by Will Dyson is inscribed "to the Berg Collection from Elsa Shelley and Irving Kaye Davis."
