Biography
The Columbus Branch of The New York Public Library originated in a reading room of the Columbus Catholic Club, a social and educational organization for young men. In 1901, the club's library was incorporated into the Cathedral Free Circulating Library, and in 1905 it became part of The New York Public Library. The branch's current building, located at 742 10th Avenue, opened in 1909 and was built with funds donated by Andrew Carnegie.
