  • Cassette 9, side A (ca. 34 min.). The recording begins with Frederic Franklin continuing to speak about the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo's performance of Giselle while on tour in the U.S. The recording also includes Franklin's comments on photographs and drawings shown to him at the interview. Franklin speaks about partnering Alexandra Danilova in Giselle; the company's 1948 season at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City; performing with Yvette Chauviré, in Giselle and other ballets; Danilova's dislike of the role of Giselle; partnering Danilova in Giselle at Sadler's Wells Ballet; dancing with Alicia Alonso; Danilova as Queen of the Wilis at Drury Lane [Theatre] in 1938; the dancers he has partnered in Giselle; performing with Moira Shearer; Ninette de Valois' selection of Margot Fonteyn as Sadler's Wells Ballet's star; Shearer's and Fonteyn's roles in the U.S. in 1949; more on de Valois and Fonteyn; Franklin's stagings of Giselle; Alicia Markova and her Giselle costumes; Markova and Tamara Toumanova; Franklin comments on photographs and drawings of Giselle, including the costumes; Leonide Massine's ballet Harold in Italy, created for the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in 1954; Massine's choreographic problems.
